To attaching turning data to image data, to generating a single processed image signal and to automatically confirm and correct the direction of a photograph by detecting the direction of an image acquisition device and providing the function of a turning detector that decides whether an image is horizontal or vertical.
An electric image acquisition device 10 generates a digital image signal 14 from a projected image by an image capture element which captures an image projected on an image capture device 12. A turning detector 16 detects a turning angle that is almost equal to a 90° integer multiple from a reference position where the device 10 is located at a horizontal position and generates turning output value 20. A signal processor 22 generates a processed digital image signal 24 by combining the signal 14 and the value 20. An interface system 26 which interfaces the processed digital image signal to other various systems interfaces, e.g. a computer 28.
