Abstract:
To expand a luminance range capable of ensuring linearity of a phase difference detection signal when a difference between signal charges of the divided PDs is large while ensuring linearity of a captured image.SOLUTION: The imaging element includes: a plurality of photoelectric conversion units for dividing an imaging optical system into pupils to receive light; and an overflow holding capacitor, provided in common to two photoelectric conversion units of the plurality of photoelectric conversion units, capable of holding the two overflow charges. Exposure is performed in a state where a potential barrier between the overflow holding capacitor and the two photoelectric conversion units is lower than a potential barrier between the two photoelectric conversion units, a captured image is generated by adding signals of the photoelectric conversion units, and a phase difference detection signal is generated by adding a signal of the overflow holding capacitor to a larger signal of the two photoelectric conversion units.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
