NEW MATERIAL: The compd. of formula I [X is O, S, SO or SO2; R1 is H, alkyl, phenyl, halogen, NO2, OH, etc.; R2 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl-alkyl, etc.; R3 is (substd.) phenyl, naphthyl, etc.; R4 is OH, alkoxy, etc.; R5 is alkyl, phenyl, phenyl-alkyl, formula II, etc.; R6 is H, halogen, OH, alkyl, alkoxy, etc.].
EXAMPLE: Methyl(5RS, 6SR)-5-hydroxy-6-(3-methoxyphenylmethyl)-6-phenyl-3- oxahexanoate.
USE: A leukotriene antagonist. Adequate for the treatment of allergic and inflammatory disseases, chronic rheumato arthritis and shock.
PROCESS: The compd. of the formula I in which R4 is OH is obtd. by bringing the novel epoxide of formula IV obtd. from, for example, the compd. of formula III as a starting material into reaction with the thiol of formula R3 SH.
