Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTROOPTIC ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01219720
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the liquid crystal electrooptic element which is hardly inverted in displays state and a wide visual angle by providing an optical anisotropic body which has its optical axis almost at right angles to the substrate surface of a liquid crystal cell in addition to the display cell and a compensating cell. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display cell 2 which has twist-oriented nematic liquid crystal 9 sandwiched between two opposite electrode substrates and a vertical compensating cell 4 which is oriented vertically above the optical anisotropic body 3 as a twist-oriented compensating cell are arranged, and a couple of polarizing plates 1 and 5 are provided across them. This vertical compensating cell 4 has its optical axis at right angles to the panel surface, so when the panel is viewed from the front, there is birefringence, but when it is viewed slantingly, the birefringence increases. The inversion of display which occurs frequently before is suppressed and the wide visual field is obtained.
