To provide a liquid crystal optical device capable of reducing a risk of disconnection of a wiring pattern though being required to be miniaturized, which can be used in an optical pickup having a liquid crystal optical device mounted thereon for removing wave aberration of laser light, a projector having a liquid crystal optical device mounted thereon, or the like.
The liquid crystal optical device includes; a liquid crystal panel of which the connection terminals for feeding power to a liquid crystal layer are exposed by giving such arrangement to a plurality of transparent substrates interposing the liquid crystal layer between themselves that their end faces are shifted from each other like stairs; and a flexible wiring board which is bent stepwise along transparent substrate surfaces having the connection terminals exposed therefrom and to which the connection terminals and the wiring pattern formed on a film are connected by packaging. The liquid crystal optical device employs a configuration wherein protection means for preventing breakage of the wiring pattern are formed in end parts of transparent substrate brought into contact with the flexible wiring board.
