Abstract:
To provide a magnetic tape suitable for a recording medium for archive which can exhibit excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics.SOLUTION: There is provided a magnetic tape in which a magnetic layer includes ferromagnetic powder, binder and oxide abrasive, ΔSFD calculated by the formula 1:ΔSFD=SFD°C-SFD°C in the longer direction of the magnetic tape is 0.50 or less (SFD°C is SFD measured in the longer direction of the magnetic tape at 25°C, SFD°C is SFD measured in the longer direction of the magnetic tape at -190°C), a logarithmic decrement determined by a pendulum viscoelasticity test on the surface of the magnetic layer is 0.050 or less, and an average particle diameter of the oxide abrasive determined from a secondary ion image, which is obtained by irradiating the surface of the magnetic layer with a focused ion beam, is 0.04 μm or more and 0.08 μm or less.
