To provide a method and an apparatus which can evaluate a property of a non-conductive liquid such as a machine-use oil, a fatty acid, a crystalline liquid or the like, under a condition wherein states of an applied pressure, a surrounding temperature and the like are similar to their actual working states.
In the method for evaluating the non-conductive liquid sandwiched between solids, the liquid 4 is sandwiched thinly between a metal sphere 2 and a semiconductor plate 1, and a pressure is applied to the liquid formed into a thin film by using a weighting member 6, and the semiconductor plate 1 is irradiated with light by using a semiconductor laser 9 and an objective lens 10 in order to generate photoexcited electrons, and a current value which is caused by the photoexcited electrons moving from the semiconductor plate to the metal solid across the liquid being in the form of the thin film, is measured by a minute-current meter 3. Furthermore, the apparatus is installed in a constant-temperature chamber 12, whereby the property such as stability or the like of the liquid being in the form of the thin film can be evaluated under the condition of the state similar to the actual working states.
