Abstract:

To provide a method and device for accurately determining an angular position of a crankshaft in an internal combustion engine, especially when shutting down the internal combustion engine.

This invention presents the method for determining the angular position of the crankshaft in the internal combustion engine, for example when shutting down the internal combustion engine. In the method for determining the angular position of the crankshaft, passing of an increment type angle mark provided in a generator wheel non-rotatably connected to the crankshaft is detected by an angle generator and is transmitted to an engine control device of the internal combustion engine in the form of a signal. At least part of the signal contains information on the rotational direction of the crankshaft, and the rotational direction information included in the signal is evaluated in the engine control device.
