Abstract:

To provide a method for catalytically isomerizing Z-3-methylpent-2- en-4-yn-1-ol in a mixture of Z and E, stereoisomers, being an intermediate useful for producing vitamin A, to E-3-methylpent-2-en-4-yn-1-ol.

A reaction mixture is mixed by using a bromine radical as an isomerization catalyst at about -10°C to about 100°C in a two-phase system of an aqueous phase and an stereoisomeric mixture phase optionally with the stereoisomeric mixture being present in an essentially water-immiscible organic solvent.
