To provide a method for producing a dihydropyran compound by subjecting an aldehyde and a conjugated diene compound to cycloaddition and a method for producing an alcohol compound by hydrogenating the dihydropyran compound.

The method for producing the dihydropyran compound represented by formula (1) (R1 is a hydrogen atom, a 1-12C alkyl group, a 1-12C alkenyl group, an aryl group which may contain a substituent group or the like, R2 to R5 are each a hydrogen atom, a 1-12C alkyl group, a 2-12C alkenyl group or the like) comprises subjecting the aldehyde represented by formula (2) and the conjugated diene compound represented by formula (3) to the cycloaddition in a normal-temperature molten salt in the presence of a Lewis acid. The method for producing the alcohol compound represented by formula (4) comprises hydrogenating the dihydropyran compound.
