To provide a method for producing metal fine particles, by which the metal fine particles are stably formed and a dispersion liquid, including metal fine particles dispersed in an isolated state, can be fired at a firing temperature in accordance with the application of the dispersion liquid when the dispersion liquid is fired.
Au fine particles whose surfaces are covered with a first carboxylic acid, having 6 to 18 carbon atoms and a straight chain or branched structure, are formed. Then, the formed Au fine particles are mixed with a second carboxylic acid, having 4 to 22 carbon atoms and a straight chain or branched structure, to substitute the first carboxylic acid covering the surface of each Au fine particle with the second carboxylic acid. The Au fine particles whose surfaces are covered with the second carboxylic acid are mixed with a primary amine, having 4 to 22 carbon atoms and a straight chain or branched structure, to obtain Au fine particles whose surfaces are covered with the second carboxylic acid and the primary amine.
