Abstract:
To provide a production method capable of advantageously producing a methylbenzyl alcohol with a halogenated nucleus which is useful as a raw material or an intermediate for producing agrochemicals, medicines, etc., in an industrial manner.
The method for producing the methylbenzyl alcohol with the halogenated nucleus represented by general formula (II) (wherein m is an integer of 0-3 and n is an integer of 1-4, with the proviso that m+n is an integer of 1-4) comprises hydrogenating a benzenedicarbaldehyde with a halogenated nucleus represented by general formula (I) (wherein m and n are the same as mentioned above).
