Abstract:

To provide a method for producing a tetrafluorobenzenecarbaldehyde alkylacetal and tetrafluorobenzenecarbaldehyde useful as raw materials or intermediates for producing agrochemicals, medicines, etc.

The method for producing the tetrafluorobenzenecarbaldehyde alkylacetal represented by general formula (II) comprises reducing a tetrafluorocyanobenzene represented by general formula (I) (m is 1 or 2 and n is 0 or 1 and m+n=2) in the presence of an alkylalcohol represented by the formula R-OH (R is an alkyl group) and an acid by a metal catalyst containing a platinum group metal.
