PURPOSE: To provide durable water vapor absorption, deodorizing properties and soft handle by polymerizing a mixed treating solution comprising a vinylcarboxylic acid and/or a vinylsulfonic acid and a divinyl monomer on the surface of a fiber material.

CONSTITUTION: A vinylcarboxylic acid such as acrylic acid and/or a vinylsulfonic acid such as 2-acrylic amido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid is mixed with a divinyl monomer of the formula (X is H or methyl; (n) is an integer of 5-23) by the weight ratio of 1:1 20:1 and a polymerization initiator such as ammonium persulfate to prepare a treating solution. A fiber material such as polyester woven fabric is provided with a prescribed amount of the treating solution by a padding method, a spray method or a coating method, treated with steam at 100-160°C for 1-10 minutes and the components in the treating solution are polymerized. The introduced acidic group is replaced with at least one metal ion selected from the group consisting of Zn++, Cu++, Ni+, Mn++, Ag+ and Fe++.
