Title:
MISFIRE DETECTION DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3675049
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect precisely all misfire patterns generated in an internal combustion engine.
SOLUTION: In a misfire detecting device for an internal combustion engine 1, crank angular velocity variation amount for respective cylinders is determined based on a rotational signal NE corresponding to the rotation of a crankshaft, and the determined crank angular velocity variation amount for respective cylinders is compared with a prescribed misfire determination value to detect misfire generation in the engine. This is specially applied to a six-cylinder internal combustion engine. An ECU 9 determines angular velocity variation amount between respective cylinders for each difference calculus, using 720° CA difference calculus, 360° CA difference calculus and 120° CA difference calculus. Respective angular velocity variation amounts determined in this way are compared respectively with a prescribed misfire determination value, and the number of misfires is counted respectively based on the results calculated by the respective difference calculi. The ECU 9 conducts final determination of the presence of a misfire which occurs in the internal combustion engine 1 based on the data of a plurality of misfires counted.
