PURPOSE: To produce an elpasolite phosphor represented by a specified formula, having a specified specific gravity, and being useful in the production of prompt X-ray emitting screens, and in the production of X-ray energy storage screens.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided the objective phosphor represented by the formula (wherein A is a monovalent ion; B is a monovalent ion, provided that A≠B; Me3f is a trivalent ion; D is a dopant; X is F, Cl, Br, or I; (y) is 0-1; and (x) is 0-0.2) and having a specific gravity of 4 or above, desirably, 5 or above. It is desirable that their ionic radii satisfy the relationship: rA>rB>rMe3f (wherein rA is the ionic radius of the monovalent ion A; rB is the ionic radius of the monovalent metallic ion B; and rMe3+ is the ionic radius of the trivalent metallic ion Me3f).
