To provide an optical disk reproducing apparatus in which deterioration of a recording film of a recording type optical disk can be prevented even if it is radiated continuously with a laser beam for reproduction in a standby state, and transition between a standby state and a reproduction state can be surely performed in a short time.
An optical disk reproducing apparatus includes an optical pickup for receiving a reflection signal from an optical disk having a land and a groove, an error signal creation unit for creating a tracking error signal from the reflection signal, a polarity switching unit arranged to switch the polarity of the tracking error signal, and a servo processing unit for performing a tracking servo process using the tracking error signal output from the polarity switching unit and creating a drive signal of a tracking actuator provided with the optical pickup, then the polarity switching unit switches the polarity of the tracking error signal in a reproduction state in which the optical disk is reproduced and in a waiting state in which reproduction is interrupted.
