Abstract:
To provide a device and a method for producing an optical fiber preform that can prevent breakage of an optical fiber preform during execution of a glass soot forming process.SOLUTION: A device for producing an optical fiber preform has: a rotation holding mechanism that rotatably holds a starting material for the optical fiber preform; a burner that sprays flame containing glass soot to an outer peripheral surface of the starting material under rotation; a measurement mechanism that measures a load acting on the starting material in a vertical direction relative to its rotation axis; and a controller that stops the rotation of the starting material when an amplitude of the load measured in a predetermined period exceeds a predetermined level.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
