PURPOSE: To provide an oxygen-permeable substance superior in oxygen permeability, touch, stain resistance, and adaptability for living organisms, and useful for hard contact lens, etc., which comprises a specific fluorinated (meth)acrylic ester polymer.
CONSTITUTION: 30wt.% or more fluorinated (meth)acrylic ester monomer of formula I (wherein Rf is a 1W30 C fluorinated hydrocarbon group that has at least three fluorine atoms bonded thereto and may contain oxygen, R1 is H or methyl; and R2 is a 1W30 C hydrocarbon group which may contain F or O) and 70wt.% or less monofunctional copolymerizable monomer of formula II, III, etc. are copolymerized to produce a fluorinated copolymer having a limiting viscosity of 0.1W3.0dl/g (in ethyl acetate, at 30°C) and a glass transition temperature of -80W200°C. Then the copolymer is molded into a desired shape under conditions of melting to obtain an oxygen-permeable substance having a coefficient of oxygen permeability [DK value × 10-11cc (STP)cm/ cm2.sec.mmHg] of ≥10.
