PURPOSE: To secure certain capability of detecting both vertical and lateral displacements of a paper sheet and miniaturize the handling unit rotated thereto, by arranging two pairs of detector consisting of two sheets of lever making differential rotation in parallel with each other, on a paper sheets parting board.
CONSTITUTION: A sensor 37 for detecting the remainder on separators 23a, 23b is so arranged as the tips of levers 64, 65 touch the separator 23 on input paper money 51 placed thereon. The separator 23 is provided with a hole at one position into while the lever 65 plunges when there is no input paper money 51 and if tips of levers 64, 65 stay in the same level, partial areas of levers 64, 65 shield the optical axis 100 of an optical sensor 66 and the shield on the optical axis is cleared when the lever 65 plunges into the hole of the separator 23. In addition, the lever 65 is very slightly longer than the lever 64, and this fact contributes to maintain 1a constant phase difference of the lever 65 in relation to the lever 64 even when the vertical position of the separator 23 is changed, so that presence/absence of input paper money 51 can be discriminated in a steady state. Thus, thickness of the separator 23 can be only several mm, duly realizing compact dimensions for the whole unit.
