Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user-friendly and easily operable picture processor and a method for controlling the processor.
SOLUTION: The picture processor is a copying machine which stores picture data read from an original on a hard disk after compressing the data by JPEG. The user of the processor can perform compression at the appropriate compression ratio corresponding to a selected picture processing mode on the operation screen of the processor through a simple user interface by changing the quantization table assigned to buttons 304-306 when the user selects a character mode by operating a button 301 and the quantization table assigned to the buttons 304-306 when the user selects a photography mode by operating a button 303.
