To provide a porous fired body which maintains a prescribed shape with only natural minerals without using an organic binder even when it is fired at a low temperature.

The porous fired body contains 50 to 100 wt.% clay and 0 to 50 wt.% natural minerals, and has a small nearly oval-shaped form such that the length is 10 to 50 mm, the width is shorter than the length and the height is shorter than the width. The method of producing the porous fired body comprises providing a mixture comprising substances mentioned above, then controlling the amount of water contained in the mixture to a prescribed amount, forming the mixture into a nearly oval-shaped form and firing the formed body by heating it to 400 to 800°C for at least 1 h.
