Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely obtain glass gobs of desired shapes adapted as a glass blank for forming optical elements by a common receiving mold.
SOLUTION: This forming stage supplies gas to the rear surface of the porous receiving mold 1 and receives molten glass on the receiving surface of the receiving mold 1 in the state of ejecting the gas from the receiving surface of the receiving mold 1 through the porous receiving mold 1, holds the molten glass afloat by the gas ejected from the receiving surface and forms the glass gob 6 in a contactless state. In such a case, the molten glass is press formed by setting the shape of the receiving surface and the amt. of the molten glass in such a manner that the diameter: &phiv A of the ejection part of the gas to be ejected from the receiving surface and the diameter: &phiv B of the part to be formed with the shape of the glass gob 6 on the receiving surface and the desired diameter: &phiv C of the glass gob 6 to be formed attains a relation 0.7x&phiv <&phiv c and &phiv C<1.3x&phiv B.
