Title:
PRODUCTION OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE 1,2-DIOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3630002
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in an easier way in high selectivity by making an asymmetric ligand having a specific element, a specific metal compound, a hydrogen donor, etc., act on a specific α-hydroxy ketone.
SOLUTION: This compound of formula III ((*) denotes an asymmetric carbon atom) is obtained by subjecting (A) an α-hydroxy ketone of formula I [R1 and R2 are each a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon, aromatic heterocyclic ring or aliphatic hydrocarbon; R1 and R2 may be bound to or condensed with each other to form a ring] (e.g. benzoin, acetoin) to (B) an asymmetric ligand having a group VB element, pref. a compound of formula II [R3 and R4 are each a (substituted) alkyl, aryl or the like; and R5 and R6 are each H, a lower alkyl, acyl or the like] (e.g. 1,2-diphenylethylenediamine), (C) a group VII metal compound {e.g. [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2), (D) a hydrogen donor (e.g. isopropanol), and (E) a base (e.g. lithium hydroxide).
