Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the zoning efficiency and random accessibility and to increase the disk recording capacity by setting the number of tracks in each zone to be a multiple of an integer of the number of data units and constituting plural bands out of plural zones.
SOLUTION: The number of tracks in each zone is set to be a multiple of an integer of plural data units in number constituting a recording and reproducing unit. Thus, the zoning efficiency can be enhanced, and the disk recording capacity can be increased. Then, even in the case of increased zones in number by constituting each band out of plural zones, the same revolving speed can be set in these plural zones, and hence it is not necessary to change the revolving speed for every zone, and the random accessibility is enhanced. In addition, by making changing width of a linear velocity in each band the same, a changing amt. of the linear velocity can be diminished smaller than that in the case of making the number of zones in each band simply the same, and optimum recording and reproducing is feasible even on a disk having varied sensitivities in its information recording layer.
