Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation plate which to made a relatively thin layer and exhibits wavelength dispersion of about λ/2 or λ/4 retardation with respect to light rays at a wavelength λ in approximately the entire visible region.
SOLUTION: The retardation plate comprises a monolayer film having a birefringent chain polymer orientated, wherein the polymer has a repeating unit of the structure of general formula (V). In the general formula (V), R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a 1-8C alkyl group; each of R4 and R8 independently represents a hydrogen atom, 1-4C linear or branched alkyl group, 1-4C linear or branched alkoxyl group, 1-4C linear or branched thioalkoxyl group, halogen, nitro group, amino group, hydroxyl group or thiol group (with the proviso that R4 and R8 are not simultaneously hydrogen atoms); and each of R5 to R7 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent.
