PURPOSE: To equalize tape traveling conditions at the time of recording and at the time of reproducing by fitting the dummy head of the approximately same shape as an erasing head to a rotating type magnetic head to fit both heads of recording reproducing and erasing and further, to the side opposite to the erasing head fitting side of a recording reproducing head.
CONSTITUTION: Since at a rotating type magnetic head, the right and left symmetrical construction to sandwich a recording and a reproducing head 12 from both sides with a same shape erasing head 13 and a dummy head 17 is held, the tape traveling load conditions are equalized at the time of recording and at the time of reproducing, and the position relation of a magnetic tape 20 and a rotating type magnetic head at this time is completely equalized. Namely, respectively at the time (a) of a positive direction traveling recording, the time (b) of a positive direction traveling reproducing, the time (c) of an inversion traveling recording, and the time (d) of inversion traveling, the angle formed by the traveling direction of the magnetic tape 20 and a vertical reference line in the rotating type magnetic head are equalized, and consequently, the azimuth optimum position becomes two positions due to the traveling conditions and an azimuth adjusting means becomes made easier.
