First and second rotary actuators are disposed in a body part 10 so that the center of gravity G of the whole stairway elevator 1 is located above the respective centers of gravity Gr, Gh of the first and second rotary actuators 40, 50. Since an angle θ of inclination to a step Sd of a stairway S when the body part of the stairway elevator is rotated can be held down to a desired small angle, the stairway elevation by the stairway elevator can be stably operated so that the elevating speed can be increased. Further, interference between the body part or the like and the stairway in the stairway elevation can be prevented.
