Abstract:
To provide a defect evaluation method that can predict a crack shape by potentiometric measurement with a small number of points and also predict the length and depth of ballooning cracks that have propagated inside.SOLUTION: A defect evaluation method includes the steps of determining a potential difference Vmax by measuring a potential difference between measurement points across the center of a crack using a database that includes a relationship between a potential difference and a shape of a crack derived from results of a potential distribution analysis, obtaining a potential difference Vx by measuring a potential difference between measurement points at a predetermined distance x along the crack from the center of the crack, obtaining two potential difference ratios (V/V0)max and (V/V0)x by dividing the potential difference Vmax and the potential difference Vx by a potential difference V0 at a crack-free location, determining, using the database, the length of the crack from the ratio of the two potential difference ratios (V/V0)max and (V/V0)x, and determining the depth of the crack using the database from the obtained length of the crack and the potential difference ratio (V/V0)max at the center of the crack.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
