Abstract:

To assimilate waste rubbers, waste plastics, etc., as a new raw material for petroleum products by treating nitrile compounds with a microorganism to produce carboxylic acids, wherein the nitrile compounds are by-produced on the dry distillation of the waste rubbers, waste plastics, etc.

Nitrile compounds having 6-18°C contained in a dry distillation oil obtained from waste rubbers, waste plastics, etc., (preferably hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber) is treated with a microorganism, e.g. Klebsiella oxytoca Hn32 (FERM P-15282) to produce carboxylic acids such as 2-methyl-capric acid.
