USE OF COLLOIDAL SILICIC ACID AS REINFORCING AGENT FOR KERATINOUS MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic composition capable of reinforcing a keratinous material such as a nail, eyelashes or hair.
SOLUTION: This cosmetic composition is obtained by formulating a colloidal silicic acid in an amount of 0.1-5 wt.%, preferably 1-2 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition in a cosmetic medium. The colloidal silicic acid is selected from hydrophilic igneous silica, hydrophobic igneous silica or silica treated on the surface by an organic treatment. A film-forming substance (e.g. nitrocellulose) and a solvent (e.g. ethyl acetate), a plasticizer (e.g. a citrate), an oily medium (e.g. a silicone oil), an activator, a colorant, etc., are further suitably formulated therewith. The colloidal silicic acid can be prepared as the form applied to a nail such as an enamel for the nail, base or the base for care, the form applied to eyelashes such as a mascara or a product for hair such as a styling mousse, a lotion or a hair spray. The nail can be made harder and stronger by using the composition without cracking or crazing.
