Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain novel compounds useful as asymmetric catalytic reaction catalysts, high in activity and enantio-selectivity and easy in separation and recovery from products.
CONSTITUTION: The objective novel compounds are water soluble racemic compounds or optically active compounds of formula I and II (wherein R1-R4 are each a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy; (m) and (n) are each 0-2; X is H, an alkali metal or the like; and provided that R3 and R4 are not present in the 3- and 3'-position, respectively) and including, e.g. (S)-6,6'- dimethoxybiphenyl-2,2'-bis(4,4'-phosphin-diyl dibenzenesulfonic acid) Na salt (1:4). The compounds can be obtained, e.g. by reacting a racemic compound or an optically active compound of formula III with at least 4 equivalents phenyl-Grignard reagent of formula IV (wherein X1 is Br of I; and R5 is a protective group such as indolyl or pyrrolyl) to obtain a bis(phosphine oxide) and reducing this compound by the method of reacting it with a silane, preferably in the presence of an auxiliary base in acetonitrile or the like and, at the same time, removing the protective group.
