A word presentation system includes: an information retrieval means for retrieving one or a plurality of pieces of information including an input word; a retrieval result classification means for analyzing the features of the respective retrieval result retrieved by the information retrieval means, determining the information contents of respective retrieval results, based on the combination of the features, and classifying the respective retrieval results in response to the information contents; a characteristic word selecting means for selecting one or a plurality of characteristic words to characterize the classification of respective groups, based on the retrieval results of the respective groups classified by the retrieval result classification means; and a characteristic word presenting means for presenting the respective characteristic words of the respective groups selected by the characteristic word selecting means to the retriever.
