Abstract:
A method for providing damping of low frequency noise and vibration is provided. Rotational translation of an inertial mass rotor is used for providing damping of low frequency noise and vibration. The method comprises providing an axial component with a linearly-displaceable member, and linking an inertial mass rotor to the inertial linearly-displaceable member so as to cause a translation of axial movement of the inertial linearly-displaceable member to a rotational movement of the inertial mass rotor, thereby providing inertial amplification in the form of translational-rotational coupling. An axial component is mounted so as to translate axial movement of an inertial linearly-displaceable member to rotational movement of an inertial mass rotor. This enables the construction of a compact assembly, which allows light ultra-low frequency resonances to be concentrated, and which absorbs such low frequency noise energy. A low frequency noise and vibration damping apparatus and an apparatus for providing damping of low frequency noise and vibration are also provided.
