Abstract:
The present invention provides a production method for low α-ray barium sulfate particles in which low α-ray barium sulfate particles having an average particle size of 1 µm or less, a silica content of 0.6 wt% or less, an α-ray count of 0.07 cph/cm2 or less, and a sulfur content of 10 ppm or less are obtained by crushing a barite raw ore in order to obtain crushed ore having an average particle size of 5-50 µm and an α-ray count of 1 cph/cm2 or less, then carrying out (a) elutriation treatment and media pulverization treatment in this order, (b) media pulverization treatment and sieving treatment in this order, or (c) elutriation treatment, media pulverization treatment, and sieving treatment in this order and, on this occasion, pulverizing the crushed ore during the media pulverization treatment so as to obtain powdered ore having an average particle size of 1 µm or less, removing coarse particles by the elutriation treatment and/or the sieving treatment, and thereby obtaining powdered ore that has a silica content of 0.6 wt% or less.
