The inventions relate to means and methods for automatically forming recreatable three-dimensional objects in an open space. A system for forming a three-dimensional object comprises one or more parking stations, self-propelled modules, and a control device. To form a three-dimensional object from the bodies of self-propelled modules, navigation commands and a given model of a three-dimensional object are sent to self-propelled modules for direction into a given region of an open space and positioning in a given location. A self-propelled module is designed to be fastenable in a parking station and capable of receiving navigation commands and of travel to and positioning in a given spatial location. The invention makes it possible to reduce the time required to create a three-dimensional object in a given region of an open space and to increase the duration for which said object can be maintained in the appropriate state.
