PURPOSE: To easily select one specific character, by arraying like a matrix Chinese characters consisting of different characters having the same sound in both the line and row directions so as to have each semantics, designating a line and a row of a display character, and selecting a desired Chinese character.

CONSTITUTION: To a CPU1, a keyboard 2, and the first table 3, the second table 4 and a display controller 5 through an address bus line AB, a data bus line DB and a control bus line CB are connected, by which a CRT display part 6 is controlled. In the second table 4, Chinese characters are partitioned by sund raading. Chinese characters having the same sound are divided into groups in order of Japanese reading, are arrayed in order of the number of strokes, and a punctuation code and an end code are written. Also, in the first table 3, the head address against a Chinese character storage area of each sound reading of the second table 4 is written, and in case when a Chinese character has been designated from the keyboard 2, the first table 3 is referred to and an address of the second table 4 is designated.
