Abstract:
To provide an electrode catalyst layer for an electrolysis cell that improves a catalytic reaction on a reduction electrode (cathode) in a carbon dioxide electrolytic apparatus to make it efficient, and can maintain the performance of the electrolysis cell for a long period of time.SOLUTION: An electrode catalyst layer 3 for an electrolysis cell of an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a carbon material; a metal catalyst carried by the carbon material; and a water repellent organic substance. The water repellent organic substance includes a sulfur-containing organic substance in the electrode catalyst layer for the electrolysis cell of the embodiment. The sulfur-containing organic substance forms a metal-sulfur bond with the metal catalyst. The mass ratio (S/M) between a sulfur element (S) and a metal element (M) in the metal catalyst of the catalyst layer is 0.03 or more and 0.1 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
