To provide a filter capable of reducing overheated temperature of molten metal and preventing solidification of molten metal during an initial stage of pouring molten metal with regard to the filter effectively filtering impurities lying in molten metal.
The filter is mainly comprised of an amorphous carbon component and a filler. The filler is formed by a skeletal structure that is combined with the amorphous carbon component, and a weight percentage of the carbon component is more than and equal to 10 weight percent. The filter is suitable for a porous filter for molten metal casting. The filter can be obtained by firing a formed body made from amorphous carbon or non-amorphous carbon precursor body and the filler in a non-oxidizing atmosphere.
