To obtain the subject sequence derived from Ashbya gossypii, a filamentous bacterium causing diseases by infecting the ovary walls of a cotton plant, and useful for various purposes, e.g. identification of substances for forensic medicine, chromosome mapping and identification, and labeling chemistry of known, useful genes.
This genomic DNA sequence containing the sequence shown by the formula is obtained by determining the terminal sequence of a random genome fragment of Ashbya gossypii (bacterial strain ATCC 10895). It is useful for various purposes, e.g. screening for identification of compounds which can induce wide-ranging resistance of plants to diseases, classifying different species of pathogenic bacteria which cause plant diseases, and distinguishing mycetocole causative factors from other factors (e.g. bacteria). It is also useful for screening compounds showing an insecticidal or antifungal function.
