PURPOSE: To manufacture a wear resisting, forged working roll for hot rolling where segregation is small, and the thermal shock cracking property is excellent.
CONSTITUTION: A high speed steel roll stock having a special composition is manufactured by the electro-slag refining method by using hollow electrodes. The ratio of the sectional area of the hollow part of the electrode to the total sectional area of the electrode including the hollow part is preferably 0.04-0.9. For the electrode having a cylindrical hollow part, the ratio of the inner diameter of the electrode to the outer diameter of the electrode is preferably 0.2-0.9, and the ratio of the outer diameter of the electrode to the inner diameter of the mold is preferably 0.4-0.95. Thus, the wear resisting, forged working roll stock where generation of segregation is effectively prevented in the electro-slag refining, the macro-segregation is not found, and the thermal shock resisting property is excellent is obtained.
